Versailles Revival; a little-known piece of history
This fascinating exhibition is featured until March 15th. It takes the visitor back in time to the museum established by Louis Philippe in 1837 and moves forward to the Belle Epoque and that period’s tremendous groundswell of interest in and nostalgia for the Versailles of the Ancien Régime. A vast restoration project was launched at that time to restore those past splendours and this in turn aroused passionate enthusiasm in many writers, artists and fashion designers, who found themselves inspired by the wonders of the Palace of Versailles. The exhibition entitled Versailles Revival features almost 350 artworks, along with documents and photographs, that chart this significant time.
